MARKETING MANAGER (PT), THE INDIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF LOS ANGELES, HOLLYWOOD, CA

CALL: The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) is currently seeking a Marketing Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement the Festival’s marketing strategy for strengthening the Festival’s identity and brand
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy and integrate use of existing and emerging social media channels with the assistance of the department’s coordinator and interns
  • Work closely with copy editor and newsletter programmer in executing the Festival’s social media and newsletter
  • Develop and execute the community outreach program
  • Ensure the consistency of the Festival’s brand and identity on all marketing and community outreach platforms
  • Measure and report outcomes of marketing efforts
  • Maintain and update the marketing outreach database
  • Manage the Festival’s street team
  • Work closely with the web team in creating an online platform for the festival
  • Work closely with the publicity department in coordinating radio ticket giveaways
  • Work with the Festival’s media sponsors in coordinating the online presence on those outlets
  • Attend weekly staff meetings (Jan-April)
  • Provide a comprehensive wrap report of the marketing department

SKILLS:

  • Minimum of two years professional marketing experience, preferably for an LA-based cultural organization
  • Proven experience in development and implementation of marketing plans
  • Understanding of and experience with all channels of marketing including digital marketing, social media, and advertising
  • Good knowledge of Indian film community
  • Must be a creative, entrepreneurial thinker with the ability to develop innovative approaches and strategies in a collaborative manner
  • Familiarity with IFFLA and film festival marketing is a plus
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, including strong writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Google docs)
  • Must be able to work independently, take initiative and be a detail-oriented manager
  • Experience with supervision of 2-5 staff members
  • Resident of Los Angeles or surrounding area
  • Ability to devote 10 to 15 hours/week, October 2013-April 2014

DANCERS, LA CONTEMPORARY DANCE COMPANY, LOS ANGELES, CA

CALL: The historic Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, is looking for energetic, articulate people to be the front-line goodwill ambassadors for performances during our upcoming 2013-2014 Season.

REQUIREMENTS: Excellent customer service skills are imperative for this position. Ushers must be able to stand on their feet for long periods of time, read and comprehend printed tickets, able to lift up to 25lbs, assist patrons to their seats, and speak clearly so as to be able to provide directions and information about the theatre.

SKILLS: team players, self-motivated, and able to work in crowds and stressful situations.

SCHEDULE: Typical shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays.

LITERARY MANAGER (PT), EAST WEST PLAYERS, LOS ANGELES, CA

CALL: East West Players is seeking a Literary Manager for the largest Asian
American theatre in the country!

OVERVIEW: The Literary Manager’s primary responsibility is to to oversee the Literary programs of the organization (David Henry Hwang Writers Institute, Writers Gallery, Playwriting Competition, Literary Submissions/Reading Committee), provide dramaturgical assistance to the productions and to recommend to the Producing Artistic Director any potential workshops and productions for programming.

REQUIREMENTS: East West Players seeks a committed, proactive, and personable individual who shares in East West Players’ aesthetic, which is enlightening, educational, innovative, and community-specific. Interpersonal skills as well as artistic production knowledge must be exceptional. He/She must independently initiate and pursue objectives in an organized and efficient manner, prioritize activities, and maximizes team interaction to complete high quality and timely work.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 5-years experience working in literary theatre, arts administration and a knowledge of the Los Angeles theatre community at professional and educational levels. College degree in theatre helpful though not required. Excellent communication and computer skills are required. Knowledge of the Asian American community and culture is strongly suggested. Applicants must be capable of working in a collaborative team environment and working independently. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: This position is an independent contractor  position without benefits.

MUSIC THEORY INSTRUCTOR, THE COLBURN SCHOOL, LOS ANGELES, CA

ABOUT: The Colburn School, located in downtown Los Angeles, is a world class performing arts school where a renowned faculty provides instruction in music, dance and drama to dedicated students of all ages. The Young Artists Academy offers a comprehensive curriculum of courses taught by a prestigious, world-renowned artist faculty. Courses are designed to develop pre-college age students as well-rounded musicians and include music history, music theory, ear training, voice and a vigorous chamber music program, as well as numerous performance opportunities. DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach core music theory courses in the Colburn School’s Young Artists Academy, a division of the School for highly gifted, pre-college musicians. The curriculum consists of three 90 minute per week courses (beginning, intermediate and advanced) which combine music theory and ear training skills. The 30 week courses progress from the basics of diatonic harmony to 19th century chromatic harmony and various techniques of 20th century and contemporary analysis. The Academy’s academic year runs from September through May.

REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree or above (doctoral degree or ABD preferred) in music theory (preferred) or composition. Previous teaching experience is required; experience teaching pre-college age students desirable.

MUSIC SPECIALIST, LOS FELIZ CHARTER SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS, LOS ANGELES, CA

CAL: Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts is in the process of identifying and interviewing outstanding candidates for a Music Specialist to join our Arts Team. The ideal candidate is an accomplished practicing musician who is also interested in education and arts integration. The successful candidate will be working with TK-6th grade students, a very creative teaching team and arts team. The Music Specialist will lead the design of a high quality music program. This person will also work closely with teachers to create opportunities for teaching through the arts, in this case through music, in all the other curricular subjects (ie. reading, writing, math, social sciences, etc). The school aims to become a national model for arts integration in education and we need top quality candidates for this search.

OVERVIEW: Our LFCSA Music Specialist is an individual committed to the arts, child-centered learning, and learning in and through the arts. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes at the times designated, conveying knowledge of and enthusiasm for music as: a) an artistic discipline, b) a form of knowledge, c) a vehicle for the understanding of culture, history, and of disciplines beyond the arts, and d) a context for the training of identified values, interests, and attitudes within every learner
  2. Creates a classroom environment conducive to effective critical learning and exploration while fostering values and attitudes outlined in the school’s charter and GRASP Plan.
  3. Prepares for classes in a timely manner, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor, including weekly agendas and lesson plans, rubrics, and weekly reports to parents
  4. Instructs, encourages, and expects students to follow standards of classroom behavior
  5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved, while guiding his/her planning and instruction using VAPA standards, Common Core Standards, and LFCSA’s curricula
  6. Strives to implement by instruction and action the school’s mission and vision
  7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  8. Evaluates student progress, and grades students at the end of each trimester in collaboration with generalist teachers

  10. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with all staff members, administration, students, parents and community partners for educational purposes
  11. Attends and participates in all staff meetings, arts team meetings, and professional development sessions

  13. Selects and orders all instructional materials and supplies needed to implement the curriculum

  15. Agrees to perform all teaching assignments made by the school in accordance with highest professional standards and to have and maintain all legal qualifications required to teach in the current assignment
  16. Plans and implements the scope and sequence of the music curriculum for grades TK-6
  17. Works with Arts Integration Specialist to identify and advance community partnerships programs, events, and/or residencies with organizations and individuals in the music and performance arts field
  18. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the school administration or direct supervisor may assign
  19. Maintains interest in current theory, research, and developments in the his/her area of specialization and applies this knowledge in the development of high quality, differentiated, constructivist, and process-based curriculum
  20. Collaborates with colleagues to improve instruction, assessment, and student achievement for all students

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough understanding of his/her arts discipline and working knowledge of arts integration practices
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Music Education or related fields
  • Two years of experience as a teaching artist
  • Practicing artist in her/his artistic field, and intention to continue this practice while teaching at LFCSA
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, students, parents, administrators and community partners
  • Demonstrated commitment to child development and learning, dialogue, collaboration and growth in his/her professional practice
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking
  • Must be able to pass a background clearance check and TB test

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Three years experience in music instruction
  • Master’s degree in music or music education
  • Comfortable working in an inter-disciplinary manner
  • Curriculum planning
  • Ability to implement project, problem and/or inquiry-based instruction aligned with standards and outcome based/performance assessments
  • Ability to understand and apply effective and diverse instructional strategies to ensure student success
